Eclipse

One quarter of 2024 is already over and there is a total solar eclipse today, feels like a good time to “check in.”

I am so jealous of and happy for those that are in the path of the total eclipse today. The science nerd in me is fascinated by the total eclipse of the sun. It is a Heliophysics Super Bowl. A total solar eclipse requires the sun, moon, and Earth to be in perfect alignment.

The dreamer in me loves what other things can occur when things are in alignment.

It is lovely to see our whole country talking about something that is unifying. After all, we are all children under the sun. It’s fun to watch whole communities welcoming eclipse chasers to view the phenom with them.

Jupiter has multiple eclipses daily/yearly because of its many moons. Can we appreciate our solar eclipse here on Earth because it is a rare occurrence? Can we take this as a lesson? It seems that in today’s world with so much instant gratification from our constant internet intake, we are like Jupiter. We aren’t dazzled very easily. We are used to “special” things.

The thing about seeing an eclipse is to BE in the moment. Feel the temperature drop. Notice the birds stop singing. You can’t look directly at it so you will not be taking any pictures of it for posting. Just be. You are in history. Be amazed.

So often of late, our citizens are more interested in talking about someone who has eclipsed their “sun” and offended them. Our society today is so filled with fissures it is nice to see a unifying, and repairing, event. Weather and nature, in general, are very unpredictable; and certainly uncontrollable. When there is something that is out of our control and yet predicted, it is exciting for humans. It makes us recognize that we are not in charge and each of us is in fact very small in this world. It’s like a big universal call to take notice that the creator is making this happen and allowing you to appreciate it.

What else is aligning for you in 2024? It’s April and a quarter of the year is gone. Are you living in your word for 2024? Are you continuing to keep any of your resolutions?

My word for 2024 is Delight. When I picked that word I was hoping to find delight in all sorts of new adventures and moments in the new year. Now I see that the word is also for me to delight in others’ adventures and special moments. I have a friend who is eclipse chasing. They are traveling across the country to find the perfect spot to experience the eclipse. I am delighting in their adventure. They are seeing parts of the country they have never seen before and visiting places they have always wanted to. This is a perfect example of someone chasing something and discovering so many wonderful things along the way. I am delighted for them.

A resolution I made in January was to do at least this one yoga pose every day with full practices whenever I can. My yogic squat is strong. By doing a singular thing daily it is getting better but so are many other things because of consistency in one small area. Ah, look at that, a life lesson from a continued resolution. When motivation wanes, consistency remains.

May this eclipse day find you aligned with your beliefs and ideals. Feel free to email me your thoughts and what you are continuing to work on in 2024 as we are in the 2nd quarter.
