freedom

Freedom is one of those things that is evident in small children before the weight of the world and its expectations sits on their shoulders, and in women over 50 who are beginning the slide into Never Neverland of just not giving a hoot about what anyone says or thinks. These women are shedding the cares of the world, the people pleasing and the demands to be anything/anyone other than who they truly are. It’s as if that little girl riding her trike with her feet off the pedals going down the hill at top speed with a grin across her face, frilly dress hiked up above her skinned knees, and looking back to see the boys trying to catch her, has reappeared in this slightly more wrinkled, stooped, aching, hard of hearing, brain farting, hot flashing version who doesn’t even need to look around to know that her grin is all that matters.

Being “comfortable in your own skin” is freedom. Being over 50 is fascinating. The skin that you are in has changed so much, it is now fragile, loose, has new spots., is always so hot, and is prone to adult acne Mind, body, energy level are all different. Finding comfort in the fact that it is inevitable AND beautiful can be so liberating.

Menopausal women are a force to be reckoned with. We are numerous right now. We aren’t fooling around…or maybe we are, because among other things we have come to realize that fun is important and we aren’t taking ourselves so seriously anymore. We know what we don’t know and we just don’t care.

Top ten things that set me free at this time in my one precious life:

  1. Jesus - “Honestly, I think we just need Jesus”

The ONE the only example of love and light

2. I am not staying in rooms, situations, conversations or relationships that I don’t want to be in anymore.

3. My outside matches my inside

4. I have stopped recounting in my head my calorie intake for the day, day in and day out (honestly, women, why do we do that? who taught us that?)

5. I am not matching or taking in people’s negative, I am walking away and letting it slide off me as if I were a duck QUACK

6. I am present where my feet are.

7. I am exercising to be strong.

8. I am eating for enjoyment and to be healthy.

9. I am not giving headspace to being judgmental.

10. I will not enter into political debate. Period!

What are you doing for your own liberation? You don’t have to be female and you don’t have to be fifty to be free.
