What-if’ing

Working a night shift at a hospital, during a full moon, can be the stuff horror movies are made of. A bit dramatic? Is it a myth that the full moon is responsible for bizarre behavior in the natural world and among humans? It is not. Ask any sailor, beach comber, labor and delivery nurse, psych nurse, or any first responder. Strange things happen when Bella Luna is full and brilliant for all of Earth to experience. If the vast powerful oceans of the planet can be affected by the pull of the moon, think of what that pull is for humans.

So even if there is something to the power of the full moon; even if it does cause proven natural phenomenon, do we make it worse by concentrating on it and setting ourselves up to only experience the negative? If you are ultra aware and only expecting the negative, is that all you will see?

What does it do to you to be setting yourself up to fail? How do you feel about going to work when you are dreading it because you think it is going to be awful?

Our bodies are so good at protecting us. When we “what-if” our bodies don’t know that we are just running hypothetical situations through our mind,s that we are ‘worst case scenarioing’. Our bodies think we are really in danger. No wonder we are hyper aware and exhausted. Our bodes are fight or flighting before we even leave the house because of what we are thinking.

If that is the case, what if we told ourselves that the full moon (or whatever it is that you are dreading) isn’t so bad. What if we only concentrated on best-case scenarios and flooded our minds with peace instead of negative possibilities? How very different your thoughts would be if you were walking hand in hand with someone you loved on a beach while the waves did their thing in rhythm with that full moon while you basked in its beams. Think about that next month when the moon is high and full.
